First General Elections Solely Organised by Liberian Institutions after UNMIL

The National Elections Commission independently administered the 2023 presidential and legislative elections. The European Union Election Observation Mission described them as the first general elections since UNMIL's departure solely organised by Liberian institutions and said the NEC efficiently managed preparations leading to successful election days. The EU also issued recommendations for further electoral reform, including campaign-finance oversight and timely NEC funding. This record recognises the institutional democratic milestone without attributing the NEC's independent electoral administration personally to the President.
