Programme: Liberia Social Safety Nets Project / SCT-COVID
Liberia's Social Safety Nets Project began before the Weah administration, but it was expanded and adapted during the COVID-19 crisis. The World Bank reports that between October 2019 and September 2021 the social cash-transfer programme reached more than 82,000 people in 18,000 poor households across Montserrado, Maryland and Grand Kru. The emergency urban SCT-COVID programme reached 14,855 households comprising 65,362 people in 11 vulnerable Greater Monrovia communities. More than 70 percent of cash recipients were women. The emergency transfers were financed by the United Kingdom's FCDO, while the wider programme also involved World Bank and USAID support. This record therefore credits the Government's implementation and scale-up while identifying the external financing and the project's earlier origins.
